Large Scale Water Consumption in California may trigger earthquakes.

California

Over recent years scientific community becomes increasingly concerned about the forces that play an important role in elevating California's mighty Sierra Nevada and central coastal ranges, which has lead to an increased number of earthquakes.

A group of scientists has carried extensive research in the area in order to identify the reason for the occurrence of earthquakes. They published a new theory in Los Angeles Times, in which they express the opinion that quakes are caused by pumping groundwater in the Central Valley. This evidence suggests that human activity may play an important role in the rise of rate for earthquake occurrence. Due to the pumping of groundwater in the Central Valley, the mountains closest to California's drought stricken Central Valley are growing at a higher rate.

According to Los Angeles Times, groundwater is very heavy and therefore this is associated with depression of the upper crust of the Earth. Pumping groundwater leads to reduction of weight and Earth moves upward and these two factors trigger small earthquakes.

Filtration Technique used in commercial beer production found to contaminate end product with arsenic, heavy metals.

Beer is a type of commodity that is subsequently processed in order to be suitable and clear for consumption. Recently, there is a global attention and research concerning application of powdery substances in order to pull impurities out of beer.

A research was conducted and presented at the 245th National Meeting and Exposition of American Chemical Society. The research identified a diatomaceous earth, that is used by some breweries in processing and filtration of commercial beer, which can be source of arsenic and other toxins. The origin of the research focused on Germany as samples of beers were detected with high levels of arsenic. Levels of arsenic along with other contaminants were found to be higher in beer samples, than in the water used to make beer.

Researchers concluded that arsenic was released into the German beer samples through a filtering material, known as kieselghuhr or through application of a diatomaceous earth used to remove yeast, hops and other particles in order a crystal clear appearance to be generated for beer.

The many health benefits of natural yoghurt

''Natural Yoghurt''

Yoghurt is a natural dairy product, whose origin is established years ago. It constitutes a dominant                commodity in various cultures, notably eastern European and west Asian, as it is associated with a                range of health benefits.

1) Rich in Probiotics:

Natural yoghurt is made through the bacterial fermentation of milk, so it contains beneficial living microorganisms. These microorganisms are referred as probiotics. These benefit one's health when consumed in adequate amounts. Bacteria that are involved in production of yoghurt include Lactobacillus bulgaricus, Lactobacillus acidophilus and Streptococcus Thermophilus. The mechanisms of action of these bacteria constitute a significant interest as they help adjust the microflora in the intestines, aid in the production of Vitamin K and Vitamin B12 and ensure that calcium is absorbed efficiently into the bloodstream.

2) Important Role in Digestive Health:

A range of bacteria aim at colonizing the gut, either beneficial or harmful ones. The invasion of harmful bacteria can be inhibited by the action of probiotics that are found in yoghurt. These act as a protective layer in the gastrointestinal tract, so competition of harmful bacteria with probiotics leads to domination of probiotics in the GI tract. An intestinal tract that is fortified with probiotics is associated with reduced risk of some serious medical conditions such as diarrhoea, bloating, gas, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, chronic fatigue and constipation.

3) Good source of Fats

A half container of natural yoghurt that is made from whole milk contains approximately 4 grams of total fat, of which 2 grams are saturated. There is a particular fatty acid that can be found in yoghurt and it is considered essential. This can not be synthesized by the body. The designated fatty acid is conjugated linoleic acid. This fatty acid acts as a powerful anti-carcinogen, metabolism enhancer, elimination of bad cholesterol, body fat and heart disease risk.

4) Contains important minerals:

Natural yoghurt supplies the body with approximately 137 milligrams of calcium, which constitutes 14% of the recommended daily intake. Yoghurt also contains short chain fatty acids which ensure that the environment in the colon is acidic. Additionally natural yoghurt is a good source of riboflavin, phosphorus and protein.

Brewer's yeast health benefits.

Brewer's Yeast

Brewer's yeast is a byproduct of beer production. It is obtained during the process of formation from the grain, hop and malt extracts. As a product it is distinctive for its bitter taste due to chromium content. One area of importance is that brewer's yeast is a deactivated yeast which means that the actual yeast is dead but the nutritional content is not altered. As a nutrient supplement it experiences a range of applications in Europe.

  Health benefits of Brewer's Yeast:

  • Lowers glucose and cholesterol: According to a study in the Journal of Trace Elements in Medicine and Biology it is suggested that chromium content can reduce cholesterol and glucose levels. Consumption of chromium rich brewer's yeast over a 3 month period can lead to reduction of glucose levels and total cholesterol.

  • High in protein: It constitutes a primary source of protein for vegetarians. Brewer's yeast contains around 14.9 grams of protein. Protein is essential for the growth and repair of cells and muscles and for protection from infections.

  • Good source of beneficial bacteria: Brewer's yeast is a probiotic which means that it contains beneficial bacterial cultures. The good bacteria enable the improvement of digestive health and prevent constipation.

  • Rich in trace minerals:  Brewer's yeast contains essential trace minerals such as iron, copper magnesium, selenium, potassium and iron. Copper helps to regulate cholesterol, hormones and cellular energy levels while selenium as an antioxidant is efficient towards degenerative diseases.

Resveratrol helps prevent metabolic diseases.

Resveratrol is a unique nutrient that can be found in the grape skins and it can have a significant and powerful effect on the genetic expression of the mitochondria within every cell. Enabling resveratrol mitochondrial function encourages the treatment of cancer, heart disease and metabolic conditions.

In France there is a trend that is called the French paradox. A high intake of dietary cholesterol and dietary fat is characteristic of French people as there is considerable consumption of alcohol and high tendency to smoking. However the cardiovascular heart disease rates are low and the standard of life is satisfying. Scientists carry out research in order to investigate the dietary factor that confers positive effects in French people. One area that attracted their attention is that as a population tends to consume dark, fermented wines on a regular basis. There is an active compound in these wines which is called resveratrol. It is a unique polyphenolic antioxidant found in the grape skins, seeds and some berries.

Resveratrol as a compound is recognized for a series of health benefits. It possesses anti aging effects as it inherits the positive effects of calorie restriction and extension of lifespan. Moreover it plays an important role in the activation of a group of mitochondrian proteins. This enhances energy production, fat-sugar metabolism and blood sugar stability. As the blood sugar is improved the regulation of insulin and other hormones that reduce inflammation and enhancement of fat burning is achieved.

Taking a daily brisk walk lowers the risk of prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is a type of cancer which develops in the man's prostate which is a walnut sized gland below the bladder and produces some fluid in semen. One of the characteristics that distinguish this type of cancer is that it can go for many years undetected, without causing any serious problems. At a time however as a cancer it can get aggressive and spread rapidly to other parts of body. Treatment at this stage is difficult however according to research carried out a daily brisk walk lowers the risk of prostate cancer.

Age is one of the main contributors to the occurrence of prostate cancer among men as those who are above 60 years are more prone. In addition to this, there are some factors that play a crucial role in prostate cancer. Obesity along with some nutritional choices such as consumption of high fat dairy products and red meat are factors that may lead to prostate cancer. Chronic prostatitis, alcohol and smoking contribute significantly to prostate cancer so lifestyle factors need to be considered.

Recently there has been extensive research that has been carried out in order for potential treatment towards prostate cancer to be invented. On going examination and research has shown that daily work combined with regulars exercise can lower significantly the risk of prostate cancer. Men with prostate tumours that have more regular blood vessels have a better prognosis than men with prostate tumours with irregular blood vessels. Thus regular physical activity is recommended for prevention of some severe symptoms of prostate cancer.

Colder temperatures can induce a massive calorie burn.

Recently, there is research concerning ways of burning efficiently calories. One potential method is low temperatures. According to Trends in Endocrinology and Metabolism, the optimal temperature for burning calories in fit individuals is 19 degrees Celsius. This occurs due to brown fat composition that warms the body by burning energy to generate heat.

The team of Dutch scientists that examine how heat production via brown fat occurs state that energy can be enhanced 30%. An extended period of time exposure to low temperatures can considerably aid in the burn of calories. When the body is exposed to cold temperatures it actually responds to the corresponding conditions by increasing the number of brown fat cells. Brown adipocytes behave differently from the white fat cells as they burn fat at a higher rate compared to the white ones that are responsible mostly with storage of fat.

Brown fat cells experience a wide accumulation around the upper torso and the neck. A Japanese study that was published in the Journal of Clinical Investigation showed that people who spend at least two hours in mild cold temperatures over a period of six weeks burned significantly and efficiently more calories than people who spent their time in warmer temperatures.
